Install FlightSide

Install FlightSide like an app, straight from your browser. There's no app store, no download and no account. How you do it depends on your device:

  • iPhone and iPad: in Safari, tap the Share button, then Add to Home Screen.
  • Android: in Chrome or Firefox, open the menu and tap Install app or Add to Home screen.
  • Computer: in Chrome or Edge, click the install icon at the right end of the address bar. In Safari on a Mac, choose File, then Add to Dock. Firefox on a computer doesn't install web apps, but FlightSide still works offline in a normal tab once you've opened it.

FlightSide then opens in its own window with its own icon, like any other app.

Install before you travel

Installing is what makes FlightSide dependable offline. It downloads the whole world map and keeps it on your device, instead of leaving it for your browser to clear out later. Do it at home, on Wi-Fi you trust, and it's all there when you need it.

Why it's important to do before you travel

Seat decisions often happen at the worst moment: a rebooking after a delay, a seat that frees up at check-in, a second leg you're booking from the gate. Airport Wi-Fi is slow, roaming is expensive, and in-flight internet may not work at all.

Check your flight with no signal

With no connection, the main tool works exactly as it does online:

  • Airport search, anywhere in the world
  • The sun calculation and the seat recommendation
  • The timeline and the Delay slider
  • The map, with your route, the plane and the sun
  • Journal posts you've already opened

What needs a connection

Two things wait until you're back online: journal posts you haven't opened yet, and the contact form. The form tells you it's offline instead of letting you write a message that won't send.

Know when you're offline

When you lose your connection, a crossed-out Wi-Fi icon appears in the navigation bar. Tap it to see what still works.

Keep it up to date

FlightSide updates itself in the background whenever you open it online. When a new version is ready, an Update button appears in the navigation bar. Tap it and the page reloads into the new version.

There's no rush: you can keep using the version you have and tap Update when you're done. A new version only ever arrives in one piece, so an update that's interrupted leaves you on the version you already had.
